Vol. 373 No. 6

Written Answers. - Co-Educational Schools Statistics.

28.

asked the Minister for Education the number of second level single sex schools that are in the State for (a) boys and (b) girls; and the number of co-educational schools at second level.

Of the 812 secondary, vocational, community and comprehensive schools recognised by my Department in the 1985-86 academic year, 174 were boys' schools, 200 were girls' schools and 438 were mixed schools. In addition during the 1985-86 academic year my Department received statistical returns from 31 miscellaneous second level schools composed principally of schools aided by the Department of Agriculture and non-aided commercial colleges. Of these 31 schools, five were boys' schools, nine were girls' schools and 17 were mixed schools.
