asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the number of jobs attributable to the work of the innovation centre established by SFADCo; the annual cost of the centre; the total State investment to date; the number employed therein; the number of users of the centre in each year since its initiation; the number of projects to which the centre has assigned one of its executives to function as project leader and the results of each project; the fee income generated by the centre in each year since its initiation; the relationship of the work of the centre to that of the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards; and the duplication, if any, which exists.

The statistical information sought by the Deputy is set out in the table below. As I have previously indicated, I am having a review carried out of the functions of the semi-State bodies operating under the aegis of my Department. The relationship of the work of the innovation centre to that of the other development bodies under my Department's aegis, including the Institute for Industrial Research and Standards, will be examined in that context.

(i) Number of jobs attributable to the work of the centre: 349. This represents the position at 31 December 1986, the latest date for which such information is available.

(ii) Annual cost of the centre:

(iii) Total State investment to date: £2,674,000.

(iv) Number employed: eight at 31 May 1987 which includes three temporary staff.

(vi) Number of projects to which the Centre has assigned one of its executives to function as project leader and the results of each project: 602 up to 31 December 1986; 41 resulted in new companies; 544 did not come to fruition; 17 are still in progress.
