Vol. 373 No. 9

Written Answers. - Referendum Cost.

59.

asked the Minister for Finance the total cost to the Exchequer in connection with the holding of the recent referendum on the Single European Act.

As the relevant local returning officers' accounts have not yet been submitted to my Department, a definitive cost figure is not available. I estimate, however, that the overall cost, including advertising (£164,263.96) and printing (£181,731.44) associated with the Government's information campaign, of holding the referendum on the Single European Act was between £2 million and £2.5 million.
