There are 62 civil servants in my Department directly involved in the payment of salaries to teachers at primary, secondary and community/ comprehensive school levels. The annual salary cost of this staff is estimated at £547,740.
Second-level vocational teachers are paid directly by the Vocational Education Committees and the number of VEC officials engaged in this work is not readily available to my Department.
The number of teachers in primary, secondary and community/comprehensive schools is 36,400.
The number of whole-time teacher equivalent posts in second-level vocational schools is 5,385.
