Vol. 373 No. 9

Written Answers. - Development of Regional Technical Colleges.

172.

asked the Minister for Education if the representative body of college principals of regional technical colleges submitted views regarding the development of the regional technical colleges as institutions independent of the vocational education committees; if so, their views on this; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

174.

asked the Minister for Education if she or her predecessors sought the advice of the National Council of Educational Awards or the Higher Education Authority regarding the future development of regional technical colleges within the framework of the third level system of education; and, if so, the advice which was given by the National Council of Education Awards and/or the Higher Education Authority; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 172 and 174 together.

In connection with the Green Paper "Partners in Education" the then Minister invited submissions from all interested parties. These individual submissions and the views contained in them are regarded as confidential in so far as my Department are concerned and it would be a matter for the parties themselves to publish their views if they so wished. The views expressed will be taken into account in the current examination of the position of the RTCs under the Vocational Education Act, 1930.
