Vol. 373 No. 10

Written Answers. - Loughan House Staffing.

32.

andMr. Boylan asked the Minister for Justice if he proposed to reduce the number of prison officers at Loughan House, Blacklion, County Cavan; if he will reconsider the matter and use the centre to its full capacity; and the number of prisoners there at present.

There have been extensive consultations between officials of my Department and representatives of the Prison Officers' Association about a proposal to reduce the number of staff at Loughan House. I have also met with representatives of the association and I am at present evaluating a number of proposals. As late as last Monday 15 June, I visited Loughan House with officials of my Department where I met representatives of the local branch of the association. Officials of my Department will meet again with the association shortly. Loughan House at present accommodates up to 115 offenders. The number there today is 114.
