asked the Minister for Communications the amount paid by customers of licensed communal aerial system companies as levies to RTE for the years 1970, 1975, 1980 and 1985.

The requirement on cable television operators to pay licence fees was introduced with effect from 1 April 1974, when the Wireless Telegraphy (Wired Broadcast Relay Licence) Regulations, 1974, came into effect. The grants-in-aid paid to RTE in respect of net receipts from wired broadcast relay licence fees (cable licence fees) since then are as follows: 1975, £185,000; 1980, £495,000; 1985, £1,350,000.

85.

asked the Minister for Communications if he will introduce legislation to enable licensed communal television aerial companies to take action against those who steal signals from their systems; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have no plans to introduce legislation in this area.
