Vol. 373 No. 12

Written Answers. - Local Government Law Reform.

123.

asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals, if any, he has for law reform in relation to local Government; and if he will give a schedule of the proposed legislative changes.

I am at present carrying out a general review of the local government system and am currently engaged in a series of consultations with the various interests. It is my intention arising from this review to bring forward a comprehensive package of measures aimed at reorganising the local government system. Details of my proposals in this regard, which are likely to require extensive legislative provision, will be announced as soon as possible.
