Vol. 373 No. 13

Written Answers. - European Year of the Environment.

163.

asked the Minister for the Environment (i) the projects, apart from those under the aegis of the Environmental Awareness Bureau, which were notified to the EC Commissioner as being those which would be funded by his Department during, and to mark, the European Year of the Environment; (ii) the cost of each project; (iii) whether funding was provided for those in the Estimates published in January last; and (iv) which, if any, of these projects, or additional activities, are now being funded by the Government to mark the European Year of the Environment.

While the European Commission have been made aware of the general plans for marking European Year of the Environment in this country, formal notification of particular projects does not arise except in the case of Environmental Awareness Bureau projects where application is being made for Community assistance. As regards assistance for European Year of the Environment projects under my Department's amenity grant scheme, I would refer the Deputy to the reply to Question No. 45 on 2 April 1987. As regards the general arrangements for European Year of the Environment, I would refer the Deputy to the reply to Question No. 40 on 28 April 1987.
