Vol. 373 No. 13

Written Answers. - Imports of Cereal Substitutes.

15.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the steps, if any, he proposes to take to curtail the £100 million worth of imports of cereal substitutes into Ireland each year.

I share the Deputy's concern at the extent of imports of cereal substitutes which are creating serious problems for Community cereal producers. The Deputy can rest assured that I will continue, at every possible opportunity, to press our European partners and the Commission, which negotiates trading arrangements with third countries, to find solutions for the problems which these imports are creating.
