Vol. 373 No. 13

Written Answers. - Subsidy Scheme for Farmers.

48.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will renew the interest subsidy scheme for farmers who are in severe financial difficulty in 1988; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Because of the severe constraints on public expenditure, it is not possible to reintroduce the reduced interest scheme for farmers in severe financial difficulty which terminated in the spring of 1986. In any event interest rates now are significantly lower than when the scheme was introduced in 1982.
