The package announced by the Minister for Finance in July 1987 embraces a number of measures including re-deployment, career breaks, job-sharing and redundancy. The voluntary redundancy/early retirement terms are intended to apply only in areas where identifiable redundancy or overstaffing exists or is reasonably expected to arise. All staff in the Department of Tourism and Transport have been made aware of the terms of the package, but none have so far been offered redundancy.
