asked the Minister for the Environment if he will indicate for each local authority the total number of disabled persons employed in a permanent or temporary capacity on 1 January 1987 and the percentage of the workforce for each local authority this employment figure represents; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Footnote:—The foregoing information is compiled from returns furnished by local authorities giving the position as at 31-12-86. The figures include persons who were recruited as disabled persons through special competitions and persons who were transferred to different duties following a disability which occurred after recruitment. Information with regard to disabled persons who secured employment with local authorities following non-special competitions or persons who became disabled after taking up employment, but not transferred to other duties is not readily available.
