Vol. 374 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rate Support Grant.

206.

asked the Minister for the Environment the amount of the rate support grant adjusted for inflation provided for Dublin County Council for the years 1984 to 1987 inclusive and the estimated amount for 1988; and if he will make a statement on the implications of the trend indicated.

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:

Year

Rate Support Grants Adjusted for Inflation (1983 base and C.P.I.)

£

1983

40,905,089

1984

37,894,779

1985

36,887,391

1986

33,845,899

1987

28,058,843

The above figures are not comparable year to year because of the effects on current account finances of developments such as the assumption by the Exchequer of responsibility for certain statutory demands formerly levied on the local authority including the demands for supplementary welfare allowances and because Dublin County Council were authorised to use certain internal receipts for current revenue purposes. The actual amount of rates support grant notified to Dublin County Council in respect of 1988 is £29,624,500.
