Vol. 374 No. 1

Written Answers. - County Louth Mentally Handicapped.

235.

asked the Minister for Health the plans, if any, he has to assist the Friends of the Mentally Handicapped in County Louth from funds that will become available from the distribution of the national lottery; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The limited funds for health services which have been made available to date from national lottery proceeds have been fully committed. In the circumstances, I regret that there are no funds immediately available to me which I could allocate to assist the Dundalk Association.

I fully appreciate the important work carried out by the Dundalk Parents and Friends of the Mentally Handicapped and I will keep the Association in mind when the Government are allocating additional funds from the National Lottery. In this connection, my Department has requested the Association to provide additional information regarding the amount of assistance sought and the precise purpose for which it is intended.
