Vol. 374 No. 1

Written Answers. - Army Pensions.

250.

asked the Minister for Defence the reason a person (details supplied) in County Galway who left the Irish Army 12 years ago, having served 17 years and is now 71 years of age, is not receiving a pension because he did not serve 21 years in the Army.

Limerick West): Under the Defence Forces (pensions) schemes a pension is payable to a long service soldier on completion of 21 years or more qualifying service or 15 years or more if discharged on the grounds of disability. As the person referred to by the Deputy had a total qualifying service of 17 years and 14 days only and as he was not discharged on the grounds of disability I regret that he is not entitled to a pension under the schemes.
