Vol. 374 No. 3

Written Answers. - Employment Incentive Scheme.

111.

asked the Minister for Labour the amount of funding which will be made available in 1988 in respect of the employment incentive scheme; how this compares with the estimated expenditure on this scheme in 1987; and the plans, if any, he has for any changes in the operation of the scheme.

The employment incentive scheme (EIS) has been linked with the work experience programme for estimates purposes in 1988. The combined allocation is £7.486 million and it is expected that EIS expenditure will be about £5.2 million. The expected out-turn for 1987 is also £5.2 million.

The Economic and Social Research Institute is carrying out an evaluation of the EIS at present and the scheme will be reviewed in the light of the ESRI report which is due in December 1987.
