Vol. 374 No. 4

Written Answers. - Rate Support Grants.

37.

asked the Minister for the Environment the factors which determine the manner in which the rates support grants, such as domestic rate and agricultural rate, are ascertained for individual local authorities.

The grants for 1983 were equivalent to the 1982 rate in the pound in each local authority area, increased by just over 5 per cent and applied to the 1983 rateable valuations of land, houses, secondary schools, community halls, etc., in the area. Since then, with some limited exceptions, the increase (or reduction) for each local authority has been the same as for the amounts included nationally in the public service estimates.
