Vol. 374 No. 4

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Grants Abolition.

68.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will reconsider his decision to abolish the grants to county councils for minor water and sewerage schemes; if he will restore the financial allocation to the county council to enable them carry out their programmes as planned; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In view of the high level of existing commitments and the limited capital funds available, it was not possible to continue with the small schemes programme in 1987. The position for 1988 will be examined in the light of the capital requirements of local authorities on fully approved schemes and the capital funds available.
