Vol. 374 No. 5

Written Answers. - EC Tariff on Semi-Conductors.

58.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce the present level of the EC common tariff on semi-conductors; if there are suggestions by some member states of the EC that it should be increased; and, if so, his views on the matter.

The common customs tariff duty rate for semi-conductors imported into the EC is 14 per cent. I am not aware of any suggestions from other member states that this rate should be increased. On the contrary there is the possibility that the rate may be adjusted downwards following negotiations for duty reductions on a wide range of industrial products due to be held in the current GATT Uruguay Round of Multilateral Trade Negotiations.
