Vol. 374 No. 5

Written Answers. - State Board Members' Remuneration. >

100.

asked the Minister for Health the level of remuneration of the non-executive directors of boards, companies or agencies under his control which was first set; when these levels were set; if they have ever been revised in line with inflation or with the level of remunerations of non-executive directors of private sector entities of similar size and responsibilities.

The information sought by the Deputy is as follows:

1. Of the various agencies under my control, fees are payable to board members (non-executive directors) in only two instances — The Voluntary Health Insurance Board and An Bord Uchtála (The Adoption Board).

Voluntary Health Insurance Board — fee payable to ordinary Board member.

First sanctioned (1964) £375 per annum.

Revised (1974) £520 per annum (current rate).

An Bord Uchtála — fee payable to ordinary board member.

First sanctioned (1983) £750 per annum (current rate).

2. The revision of these fees is undertaken from time to time by the Government. There have been two increases in the level of fees payable. In 1964 an increase of 25 per cent was applied in instances where fees were less than £500 per annum. Where fees payable exceeded that amount, no increase was applied. In 1974 an increase of 60 per cent was applied to all fees payable. This increase was based on the movement in the level of fees payable in the private sector.
