Vol. 374 No. 5

Written Answers. - County Wexford School.

105.

asked the Minister for Education when she proposes to go ahead with a post-primary school (details supplied) in County Wexford; and if she will outline the different procedures to be carried out between now and construction.

The outline sketch scheme for this project which is estimated to cost £3.7 million, is currently under examination in my Department. Four further stages would have to be completed before construction could be commenced. These stages are: Stage 3 Developed Sketch Scheme; Stage 4 Detailed Design; Stage 5 Bills of Quantities; Stage 6 Tender Action and Report.

The Government have found it necessary, in the context of their Programme for National Recovery, to restrict the level of capital allocation for second level school building in 1988 to that necessary to meet contractual building commitments and minor capital works of an emergency nature. Accordingly, in respect of all other projects where construction has not already commenced, my Department are not in a position to give any indications as to (1) the rate of progress of architectural planning or (2) the date of commencement of construction.
