asked the Minister for Education the number of salary payments that will be made to primary school teachers in 1988; the difference between the number of such payments between 1987 and 1988; and the percentage reduction in the provision of primary school teacher salaries attributable to the lesser number of payment periods for 1988.

The number of salary payments that will be made in 1988 to primary school teachers paid on a monthly basis is 11 and on a twice monthly basis is 23. The corresponding number in 1987 is 13 and 25 respectively.

The percentage reduction in the provision attributable to the lesser number of payments in 1988 is 10 per cent approximately.
