Vol. 374 No. 8

Written Answers. - Environmental Amenity Grants.

63.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has reallocated the environmental amenity grants which were allocated by the previous Government and withdrawn by him after assuming Office; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Fresh allocations under the amenity grants scheme were made in July and August in substitution for those made by the previous administration in March and subsequently withdrawn. In making these fresh allocations, regard was had to the reduced total sum available (£4 million) and the need to achieve a more equitable division of funds as between different areas. In these circumstances, it was not possible to reallocate all the earlier grants. Some of these were reallocated in full, and some in part, while in some cases it was not found possible to make any fresh allocation.
