Vol. 374 No. 9

Written Answers. - Pension Entitlement.

121.

asked the Minister for Energy the reason a person (details supplied) in County Wexford who has retired from the ESB, and who previously worked for the Department of Fisheries and Forestry, has 15 years and 345 days with the Department of Fisheries and Forestry as reckonable for pension purposes but was not allowed two years and 26 days for pension purposes.

The person in question was employed with the Forestry Division of the Department of Lands from 8 February 1952 until 13 February 1970 — a total of 18 years and six days. The reason why this total service was not used to determine the relevant pension entitlement was because deductions were made in respect of unpaid absences which were not reckonable for pension purposes. I am, however, having the specific calculations rechecked in this particular case and I will communicate with the Deputy later in the matter.
