Vol. 374 No. 9

Written Answers. - Shannon Town, Status.

138.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will change the status of Shannon town, County Clare to that of an urban district council; when such a change will take place; when the negotiations between the Shannon Development Company and Clare County Council concerning the residual responsibilities for the administration and management of Shannon town by the Shannon Development Company will be completed; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A comprehensive review of local government structures is being carried out at present. The status of towns generally will be considered in the context of this review.

The question of transfer of responsibility for local services in Shannon from SFADCO to the local authority is being pursued but it is not possible at this stage to indicate precisely when the transfer might be finalised.
