Vol. 374 No. 9

Written Answers. - Proposed Vocational School Extension.

195.

asked the Minister for Education in view of the teachers' request at a meeting of Waterford Vocational Education Committee, if she will build an extension to the present vocational school instead of building a new school; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Stage 3 of the architectural planning in respect of the proposed new vocational school has been completed. There are five post-primary schools in the town of Dungarvan. My Department is reviewing in general the post-primary school accommodation situation in the town to discover whether educational objectives could be better served, and in a more cost-effective manner, by a reorganisation of the schools.

The restriction on the relevant capital allocation, implemented by the Government under its programme for national recovery, precludes incurring expenditure on any new building starts in 1988, other than on minor capital works of an emergency nature.
