Following an announcement by the then Minister for Education in connection with the 1986 budget, capitation and equipment grants ceased to be paid to fee-charging secondary schools with effect from 1 August 1986.
The question of whether grant-aid for approved building projects at fee-paying secondary schools should be at the same level as that for schools in the free education scheme arises for consideration in the context of the overall allocation available to me for building projects in the post-primary area and this matter is having attention in my Department.
