asked the Minister for Education if it is intended to build a new national school at Stokane, County Sligo; if so, the stage her Department has reached with the planning and preparatory work; and if she will make a statement on the matter.
Written Answers. - County Sligo National School.
In my reply to a question of 3 June 1987 from the Deputy, I indicated that a review of the enrolments at Stokane national school, County Sligo, was being conducted with a view to determining the long term accommodation needs of the school. This review has since been completed, and has shown a decline to the extent that two class groups only require to be catered for. In accordance with my Department's long established policy, the replacement by a permanent building of a two-teacher school will not be grant-aided.
My Department is prepared to grant-aid a scheme of essential improvements to the existing building at Stokane, for which tender documents are at present being prepared. Subject to the receipt in due course of a suitable tender, there will be no delay in proceeding with the works.
