asked the Minister for Education the number of secondary schools which have closed in the greater Dublin region in the last ten years and which have received capital building grants; the amount of building grants paid to these schools in total, and whether any of that money is repayable; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Seven secondary schools closed in the greater Dublin area in the last ten years. There was one such secondary school which received a capital building grant. This grant took the form of an undertaking by my Department to repay bank borrowings of £27,868 over a ten year period. My Department is in communication with the representatives of the school authorities with a view to determining the amount of the capital grant to be repaid under the terms of the original sanction of the grant.
