asked the Minister for Education the amount of additional money which is being added to the pay totals in the education Votes, covering (1) teachers and (2) administration, as a result of the proposed pay agreement with the Public Service concluded by the Government in October 1987.

The estimated cost in 1988 of applying the increases proposed in the Draft Agreement on Pay in the Public Service would be: £21 million in the case of the education sector as a whole; £0.34 million in the case of central administration i.e. the salaries and allowances of staff of the Department; £7.85 million, £4.5 million, £0.865 million and £2.29 million respectively in the case of salaries and allowances of national school teachers, secondary school teachers, community-comprehensive school teachers and vocational school teachers.
