Vol. 374 No. 9

Written Answers. - State Cars.

73.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs (a) the names of all persons who are provided with cars by the State excluding members of the Government (b) the Departments of State, semi-State agencies and boards constituted by the Government where these persons are employed and the offices they hold (c) the number of drivers employed, the total cost in each case and the type of use for which these cars are permitted and (d) the total overall cost to the State.

Heads of diplomatic missions and of development co-operation offices are each provided with an official vehicle for use in their areas of accreditation. Full-time drivers are employed at only two of these missions. In the case of other missions arrangements exist for the driving of the official vehicles by other staff members as part of their normal duties or by the heads of mission themselves, as circumstances require. The overall cost in 1986 of the provision, maintenance and running of such official vehicles was £254,243. Wages of the full-time drivers amounted to £2,403 in the same year.

The names of heads of diplomatic missions and of development co-operation offices are listed on pages 195 to 202 of the 1986 State Directory.
