asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs his views on the setting up of an Anglo-Irish parliamentary tier between Dáil Éireann and Westminster; and if there are any developments in the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 47 and 48 together. The possibility of establishing an Anglo-Irish interparliamentary tier was envisaged in the November 1981 Anglo-Irish Studies report and, more recently, in the Anglo-Irish Agreement. It is, as Article 12 of the Agreement states, a matter for parliamentary decision in Dublin and London whether to establish such a body.

The Government for their part would welcome the early establishment of an interparliamentary tier and, once established, would give it every appropriate support.
