asked the Taoiseach the number of full-time farmers working on farms (a) less than 15 acres, (b) 15-30 acres, (c) 30-50 acres, (d) 50-100 acres, (e) 100-200 acres, (f) 200-500 acres and (g) more than 500 acres for the years 1960, 1973, and 1986.

46.

asked the Taoiseach the number of farm holdings (a) less than 15 acres, (b) 15-30 acres, (c) 30-50 acres, (d) 50-100 acres, (e) 100-200 acres, (f) 200-500 acres and (g) more than 500 acres for the years 1960, 1973 and 1986.

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 45 and 46 together. Analyses of landholders according to the time devoted to farming are available from the periodic farm structure surveys which commenced in 1975. In the following table the estimated numbers of agricultural holdings over one acre are cross-classified by size of holding and by time devoted to farmwork by the landholder in 1975 and 1985. A corresponding analysis for 1960 is not available.
