Vol. 375 No. 1

Written Answers. - Repeal of Acts Proposals.

25.

asked the Minister for Justice the plans, if any, he has to repeal sections 61 and 62 of the Offences Against the Person Act, 1861, and section 11 of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 1885 and thus de-criminalise the committing of homosexual acts between consenting male adults.

The statutory provisions whereby certain homosexual acts constitute criminal offences are under consideration at present by the European Court of Human Rights. In the circumstances I do not propose to make any comment regarding any action that might be taken in relation to those statutory provisions.
