Vol. 375 No. 1

Written Answers. - Mortgage Subsidy Scheme.

138.

asked the Minister for the Environment when the announcement abolishing the mortgage subsidy was made; the date from which is was abolished; and the arrangements, if any, which have been made to assist house buyers who signed contracts to purchase a house prior to the announcement on the understanding that the subsidy was available to them.

The mortgage subsidy scheme was terminated with effect from 30 September 1986. However, persons who had signed contracts to purchase or build a house on or before that date were initially given until 31 October 1986 to submit their applications. This closing date for receipt of applications was finally extended to 6 March 1987.
