asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport the status of the 1985 Green Paper on transport; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Green Paper on Transport Policy was published on 28 November, 1985. The paper had a twofold purpose. First, it was a review of Government policies on transport and the issues for future policy consideration. Second, it extended an invitation to all interested parties to help mould transport policy for the future. In response to that invitation 81 submissions were received. In the light of this I am now putting in place sectoral policies for the transport sector. I have already outlined the key aspects of these policies to this House on a number of occasions, and I do not envisage publishing a composite formal policy document at this stage.
