Vol. 375 No. 2

Written Answers. - Shannon Aeradio Station.

23.

andMr. Clohessy asked the Minister for Tourism and Transport if he has satisfied himself that the present staffing arrangements at the Shannon Aeradio station at Ballygireen, County Clare are adequate; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 10 and 23 together.

Staffing at Shannon Aeradio in Ballygirreen is subject to the general Government restrictions on Civil Service staffing and overtime.

In August, 1987 broadcasts on the HF Volmet at Ballygirreen were suspended completely on 14 occasions. The broadcasts were made at hourly intervals instead of every 30 minutes on 29 further occasions. These suspensions were due to staff shortages. During the suspension of broadcasts weather information was available on request on the air/ground frequency.
