Vol. 375 No. 2

Written Answers. - Clondalkin (Dublin) School.

71.

asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the particularly acute problems at St. Mary's senior school, Rowlagh, Clondalkin, Dublin 22, arising from the increase in the pupil-teacher ratio; if, in the particular circumstances, she will waive the reduction of the number of teachers in this area and in areas with similar problems; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

The position of national schools where staffing may be affected under the new schedule of averages applicable from 1 January 1988, will not be determined until the school returns of averages for the quarter ended 31 December 1987, area available in January 1988. My Department will then communicate with the authorities of the school in question in the matter.

The new arrangements do not provide for any reduction in the number of remedial posts or in the number of concessionary posts in disadvantaged areas, nor are pupil-teacher ratios in special schools or classes being revised.
