Vol. 375 No. 4

Written Answers. - AIM Group Funding.

22.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the plans, if any, he has in the coming financial year to continue the grant for the referral service operated by the AIM group previously administered by the Department of Women's Affairs; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The activities of the group in question do not come within the scope of the grant scheme operated by my Department and consequently I have no plans in the coming financial year to provide funding for this group.

The scheme of grants which is administered by my Department is for the purpose of once-off payments to voluntary organisations which are engaged in providing services to persons and groups in need. Payments under the scheme must be of a once-off nature and assistance cannot be provided under the scheme to meet the ongoing costs of the organisations concerned. There are no other funds available to my Department which could be used for the purposes referred to.
