Vol. 375 No. 5

Written Answers. - Accountancy Profession Legislation.

27.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce in relation to recent proposals for change in the accountancy profession, if and when he intends to introduce legislation to give effect to such proposals; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have already announced on Wednesday last that I have accepted the recommendations set out in the Restrictive Practices Commission's report into the fixing of fees and restrictions on advertising in the accountancy profession.

I have also accepted the commission's suggestion that I should give the various accountancy bodies a period of six months to make the necessary amendments to their respective rules on a voluntary basis.

If all accountancy bodies have not made the necessary changes after that time, I will then have to consider introducing legislation on the subject.
