Vol. 375 No. 5

Written Answers. - Miscellaneous Payments.

38.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will give a breakdown of the figure of £156,000 in his Department's 1988 Estimate for miscellaneous payments; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The estimate of £156,000 for miscellaneous payments comprises £13,000 in respect of the purchase of metric standards, and £143,000 in respect of work related to the initial verification and pattern approval of measuring instruments.

Moneys expended on metric standards are recouped by my Department from the Department of Justice verification fees fund while the payments related to initial verification-pattern approval are recouped from the applicant firms. The moneys recouped are treated as appropriations-in-aid in the Department's account.
