Vol. 375 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Gas.

55.

asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline the arrangements made by Bord Gáis Éireann for the management and control of Dublin Gas, now that the take-over of the company is complete; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

During the Committee Stage of the Gas (Amendment) Bill, 1987, a full and open debate took place in the House on the issues raised in the Deputy's question. The arrangements to be made by Bord Gáis Éireann for the management and control of Dublin Gas are of vital importance to the future of BGE. Dublin Gas is now an integral part of the structure of BGE. While I am aware of the new management system I would suggest to the Deputy that it would not be in keeping with established practice to discuss it in detail here as this is ultimately the responsibility of the board. I would add that, regardless of any changes in management structures, the detailed monitoring of safety matters by the Department will continue.
