Vol. 375 No. 7

Written Answers. - New School Buildings.

119.

asked the Minister for Education the progress, if any, which has been made in relation to the provision of a new national school at Keelogs, Inver, County Donegal.

Tender documentation for the proposed new national school for Keelogs, Inver, County Donegal, has been completed. Because of the pressure on the capital available to my Department for the national schools building programme, I will not be in a position in 1988 to allocate funds for this new school. My Department's Primary Buildings Branch will be in touch with the school authorities as soon as it may be possible to resume processing this project.

120.

asked the Minister for Education when it is proposed to commence work on the erection of a post-primary school on Arranmore Island, County Donegal.

It is not possible to indicate when construction work for this proposed new school will be commenced.

121.

asked the Minister for Education if, in view of the dangerous condition of Carrick vocational school, County Donegal, it is proposed to proceed with the new building in 1988.

The restriction on the relevant capital allocation precludes expenditure at the present time on any new building starts, apart from minor and emergency works, in the 1988 second level school building programme.

It is a matter for the vocational education committee to apply to my Department for the temporary replacement of any school accommodation which it considers to be in a dangerous condition.

122.

asked the Minister for Education in respect of each year from 1982 to 1986 inclusive the amount of capital spending on school and college buildings, distinguishing between primary schools, secondary schools, vocational schools, community-comprehensive schools, regional technical colleges and third level institutions; and the projected expenditure in each category for 1987-88.

The information sought by the Deputy for the years 1982-1987 is already available in published material e.g., the Public Capital Programme and Part III of the Books of Estimates. As regards the projected expenditure for 1988, the details requested by the Deputy will be available when the Book of Estimates is published.
