Vol. 375 No. 7

Written Answers. - Hockey Grants.

125.

asked the Minister for Education the Government grants, if any, which are allocated to the Irish Ladies Hockey Union through Cospóir, the National Lottery or any other Government body; the criteria which apply to any such grants; and the support, if any, which Cospóir gives to hockey in Ireland.

Under my Department's scheme of assistance to sport, grants are paid on an annual basis to national governing bodies of sport to assist towards the cost of coaching, administration, equipment and special projects designed to increase participation and improve standards.

The national governing bodies for hockey were allocated the following grants in 1987:

Irish (Men's) Hockety Union £8,880,

Irish Ladies' Hockey Union £13,600.

An additional sum of £3,000 was paid to the Irish (Men's) Hockey Union to assist towards the cost of international, competition.

The Irish Ladies' Hockey Union also receives assistance towards the cost of International Competition and towards Olympic preparation from the annual grant allocation by my Department to the Olympic Council of Ireland.
