Vol. 375 No. 8

Written Answers. - Sligo Housing.

30.

asked the Minister for the Environment if, in view of the grave housing needs in Sligo Corporation area where there are now 300 applicants on the corporation's housing list and also in view of the fact that the closing date for tenders for the Maugheraboy housing scheme, stage two, was 6 April 1987 and that the corporation's recommendations were referred to him on 20 May 1987, he will give immediate sanction for work to proceed on the 100 houses; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The technical aspects of this tender which was submitted for my approval are generally acceptable. However, as the capital provided this year for the local authority housing construction programme has already been fully allocated, it is not possible to issue sanction in 1987 for the scheme referred to by the Deputy. I am not in a position, at this stage, to indicate for next year what funds will be available to individual housing authorities and consequently what schemes may be approved.
