Notes — Enrolment figures are for the quarter ended 30 September, 1987. Figures for enrolment and teachers do not include pupils and teachers in special classes.
With regard to (c) and (d) there is no provision for the employment of part time teachers in the national school system. The position with regard to nonteaching principals is that this arrangement only applies in schools with at least eight ordinary assistants on the staff. Of the schools listed in the Table, those at Nos. 4, 7, 10, 11, 14, 15 and 17 fall into this category. There is no arrangement whereby vice-principals of national schools may be released from full time teaching duties.
The position of national schools where staffing may be affected under the new schedule of averages will not be determined until the school returns of averages for the quarter ended 31 December, 1987 are available in January 1988.
It is not possible, therefore, to say at present what the staffing of these schools will be on 30 January 1988. My Department will communicate with the school authorities in due course.
