Vol. 376 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Kerry Bridges.

113.

asked the Minister for the Environment when funds will be provided for the building of a new bridge at Blennerville, Tralee, County Kerry.

The planning and development of proposals for the Blennerville bridge and approaches scheme is a matter, in the first instance, for the local authority concerned, Kerry County Council.

On the 11 January 1987, the then Minister for the Environment annulled a compulsory purchase order made by the local authority in respect of property for the route alignment proposed for the southern approach to the site of the proposed bridge.

It is a matter for the local authority to proceed with the detailed planning of any alternative proposals and, if considered necessary, to initiate procedures for the acquisition of any property required. No proposals for an alternative scheme have been received in the Department to date. Therefore, the question of grant funding does not arise at present.

asked the Minister for the Environment when funds will be provided for the replacement bridge at Killeen, Oakpark, Tralee, County Kerry.

I understand that work has now commenced on the replacement of the bridge at Killeen.

A special road grant of £36,000 has been allocated to Tralee Urban District Council for this scheme for 1987. In addition, I have allocated a special grant of £20,000 for 1988 towards the cost of completing the scheme. Notification of the grant issued to the urban council on 12 November 1987.
