Vol. 376 No. 6

Written Answers. - Illegal Fur Imports.

60.

asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the fact that large amounts of furs have recently been imported into the State for the purpose of occasional trading in circumstances which suggest that their full value for VAT purposes has not been declared; and the proposals, if any, he has to curb imports in this manner.

I am aware that furs have recently been imported into the State for the purposes of occasional trading.

The matter of the valuation of these furs for value-added tax purposes is being investigated by the Revenue Commissioners. It is not possible to predict the outcome at this stage but any resulting action that may be necessary will be taken by the Revenue Commissioners.
