asked the Minister for Finance if he has considered the representations by the bakery and confectionery trades for a lower rate of VAT to stem evasion and unfair competition; and if he has any proposals in the matter.

I have met representatives of the Irish Flour Confectioners' and Bakers' Association in recent weeks and heard their case for a lower VAT rate on their goods. I will be bearing this in mind in the context of my deliberations on the 1988 budget.
